Melbourne probably has the best galleries in the country. Melbourne is one of our shining lights, set on the Yarra River with its parks and gardens almost in the heart of the city. It is home to many world sporting events like the Australian Open and the Australian Grand Prix. It is also the city of trams and culture, art galleries, theatres and restaurants. These days it has become a favourite 'opening night' venue for world class plays and productions, with many companies testing out new shows on Melbournians even before Broadway or London's East End.

There are fantastic places for a getaway drive like the Great Ocean Road, where you will see the Twelve Apostles rock formations, Gippland or into the hills to Healesville and its fabulous history. The Dandenong Ranges also has many wine cellar doors and farming communities that are just a short drive from the city centre. Surfers will have heard of Bells Beach and Torquay which is where it is said board shorts were invented.

Melbourne is a much loved city by those who live here and by the thousands that visit every year. Melbourne is very much about lifestyle the people are friendly and passionate about there city. Melbourne is a city that caters for all tastes and the people love its sport with Aussie Rules Football, cricket, tennis and water sports being very popular. Horse racing is also a favourite with the locals and the picturesque Flemington racecourse is home to the world famous Melbourne Cup, known as 'the horse race that stops a nation' and nowadays much of the world.

Melbourne is very central to the state of Victoria and is reasonably close to many good attractions like the snow-ski resorts in north-eastern Victoria as well as the historic regional cities of Bendigo and Ballarat where the gold rushes developed the towns with majestic old buildings and monuments still standing. There are plenty of lakes and rivers close by as well where water sports are popular, with the Murray River hosting a number of skiing and canoeing events throughout the year, with Echuca being just a two and a half hour drive from the city centre.
