Hakeas
The 150 varieties of Australian Hakeas are mostly endemic to the continent. They are fast growing shrub to four to five metres high and three to four metres wide and are very attractive to birdlife.
Royal Hakea (Hakea victoria) - Has vibrant colorful, and large, variegated leaves
Emu Tree (Hakea francisiana) - Features long, pink to red, showy flower spikes
Blue Hakea (Hakea myrtoides) - Small, rare species with unique pinkish-blue flowers
Pincushion Hakea (Hakea laurina) - Larger shrub with red and cream flowers
Silky Hakea (Hakea sericea) - Large shrub with rigid, very sharp, needle-like leaves
Red Pokers Hakea (Hakea bucculenta) - native South Western Western Australia
Hakeas are very prevalent in Western Australia with the Royal Hakea found only in the Fitzgerald National Park on the south coast between Bremer Bay and Hopetoun.
