January in Sydney is a very special time as the Sydney festival transforms the city and harbour form a working city to a PARTY CITY Everything comes alive people come from all over the world to enjoy the fun time the city of Sydney turns on!

The preparation for the summer party starts at the end of last summers party and goes on all year right up until the festival begins with the opening Festival First Night

The night opens offering a kaleidoscope of diversity dozens of things to see and do, with over 200 000 people from every walk of life and cultural back ground enjoying the music and dance. The pubs, bars and night clubs fill and come to life. Crowds of people take to the streets and parks to enjoy the visual spectacle.

Sydney turns this all on for FREE! This night is the introduction to a three week fun fill program of hundreds of different events performed by over 1000 artists in at least 20 venues each year and reaches a huge Australian and global audience.

Visitors to the Sydney Festival will find a broad range of free events and accessible pricing for the ticketed events and shows allows everyone to attend. Sydney buses run from all over the metropolitan area direct to the city opening the Sydney Festival to all, Aussie and visitors from wherever you live.
