Crescent Head Surf Break and is another famous Australian surf beach which is set just off the Pacific Highway on the mid north coast of NSW. Crescent Head is a point break that is not that consistent.

But when it is working rides up to 300 metres are possible. It is also a great place for families to holiday and enjoy and it is patrolled by the local surf club.

Crescent Head requires mediumto large east to southeast swell to lift up the waves and of course the breeze needs to be offshore westerly's to assist in holding them up. Interestingly they say it was the big Mal riders of the 1950's that made the place known. It should be said when the place is working it is one of the best places to be in Australia.

Families enjoy Crescent Head the beach is great and there are always things to do. The Crescent Head National Surfing Reserve takes up 3.5km of coastline from north of Port Macquarie. Fishing is popular and just a few k's form south east of Kempsey you find Killick Creek and the natural beauty of the Hat Head National Park.

Accommodation; the caravan park is a popular there are also a number of motels, villas and holiday rentals available. Unfortunately there are no major resorts in the area. The local pub, The Crescent Head tavern, serves bistro type meals and the RSL which is not far from the caravan park turns on a meal or two. You will find a couple of restaurants. The caravan park has the usual trinket shop that sell fishing line newspapers and some food items.

When Crescent is working you really need to be at the beach at the time, the drive down form the highway takes time and coming from further, well lets say that is not unusual to see Crescent working in the morning and not working 2-3 hours later!

However when the action is on board riders gain access to the water by walking along the foreshore and entering the water from the rocks if they are able behind or between the sets. A watchful eye should be kept out to avoid cuts and board dings from the oysters, especially when exiting.

Only the real adventurous types attempt this on the real big days! Also it can very crowded on the good days
