Welcome to Australia My Land poets in Australia
In this modern time many people believe AUSTRALIAN poets have disappeared and poetry is no
onger read - "We have places to go and things to do, there is no time to sit about and read poetry" - is the cry!
However, not only do Aussies continue to buy and read poetry, many still enjoy writing poetry.
More books on poetry are sold in Australia than anywhere in the world, and Australians are among the foremost writers of poetry both in the past and in the present. Some critics attribute this to the placement of a 'pioneering youthfulness' of a European settlement alongside the ancient and rugged landmarks of the country and the seemingly age-old indigenous history.
Anywhere you go in Australia there is a romantic mystery about its presence. It is in the eerie outback silence, the roar of thunderous waves on an endless circum-navigating ocean shoreline of rocks and open sandy beaches and the strange sounds of the unique wildlife. You feel it in the mountains that seem like they have been around forever and by the quite creeks and streams that criss-cross the continent; in the parched desert and arid rocky limestone plains and while sitting under the strange mallee trees or majestic pines and oaks.
There is so much to inspire the poet in Australia, the people, the country the events of pioneering this rugged land. Poets like C.J. Dennis, A.B. Banjo Patterson and Henry Lawson are among the most well known, but listen to the inspiring and thought-provoking words of Nancy Cato, Judith Wright, Ian Mudie and Colin Thiele; well really, WHO do we list here? It is perhaps a show of disrespect to not mention a hundred other names that should appear in it.

Australia has produced some fantastic poets and you likely will know names like Henry Lawson (pictured above) and Banjo Patterson. But what about you - are you a story teller - a writer of poetry?
It is believed by many that our publishers have stopped printing poetry; we must say that is just not true, however you will sometimes find it difficult to find
poetry written by our new and budding poet's.
If you have written a poem or a short story, and you would like to see if the public like your work, we invite you to post it here, in this section of Australia
My Land. We will find a place for you. We invite all amateur poets to send in their un-published works for inclusion on the site. We are even going to publish the best of
what we receive and perhaps make you some income from it!
Remember it MUST be previously unpublished, we do not want any copyright issues here at AML! By you sending your material to us you acknowledge that you are giving us the

Here is an excellent opportunity for you - a testing place if you like to post a sample of your works. It must be said; publishers do say about one short story
or poem in five is worth publishing and about one in every 20 is really good. But what do they know? Poetry is all about personal taste.To be judgmental is a job for
the reader.
